InDetective Comics # 1039 , on sales event now in print and digital , a new menace , named Vile , is infect the citizen of Gotham with a sponger that makes them mind - keep in line zombies , and the parasite ’s behaviour and appearance mimics that of the Venom symbiote .
In the Marvel Universe , the symbiotes originatedwith Knull , AKA the King in Black . These exotic beings journey through the universe , stick with host and giving them marvelous powers . Usually , the symbiote takes control of the innkeeper , but in some cases , most notably Venom , a true symbiosis occurs . The symbiotes are usually depicted as a opprobrious , fluid marrow that can alter its form . There has been no tangible analog to this in the DC Universe - at least not until the arrival of Vile in Gotham City . Readers learn that Vile has had the parasite since he was a boy , and that it can taint citizenry and make them zombie - comparable creatures . The Venom symbioteshave always been depicted as slimy and vulgar , yet Vile ’s parasite has them pose . In gild to spread the sponge , Vile must throw it out of his mouth , almost like he is chuck it up . It then goes into the victim ’s mouth and turns them into fatuous hard worker . Unlike Venom , however , Vile ’s creature is a leech and not a symbiote . Vile ’s leech also do not have the intellect of a symbiote as they are mindless creatures . And like the symbiotes , who are afraid of fire and strait , Vile has its own impuissance when it come to bright lighting .
The DC Universe ultimately has its own versionof theVenomsymbiote , and it is far more wicked than its Marvel twin . It is also just as deadly and signals the comer of a major new foe forBatman .
