DC has admitted that the relationship between Roy Harper - akaArsenal- andGrace Choiwas unhealthy . One of the signature young zep romances , Grace and Roy have been depicted as a couple in many comic strip . However , a novel comic is shake off some lighting on their relationship and putting it into a fresh position .
InThe Other History of the DC Universe , author John Ridley explores facets of the DC Universe which have previously either been brush over or not touched on at all . In the fifth issue ofRidley ’s proudest work , with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli , he pore on Thunder , the daughter of Black Lightning , as she explores her future as a submarine , her relationship with her Padre , and what it means to be herself . Thunder ’s narrative unwrap that the relationship is not what the exterior sees . While many characters consider Grace ’s sexuality as being chance , Thunder ’s internal monologue reveals this is far from the case . She describes it as being a way for Grace to undo theabuse that she endured . " It was an effort at undoing a set of mysterious - seat complications . She want it . Roy wanted it . " This was one of the ways that Grace sought gag law , much like fighting the small fry sexual urge - trafficking ring served as closedown for her as well . The serial takes a more vital look at the topics of wash , gender , gender , and consent through the eyes of this medium with familiar character . These character reference are complex - and characters like Roy and Grace are no exception . It ’s a tonic take on the DC Universe , allowing readers to see characters and preceding situations ( like Batman ’s shaping of the Outsiders ) in a new lighting - and that light is n’t always necessarily plus .
