With Equilibrium ’s attacks arise more brazen , Batman turns to the man who trained them both - Henri Ducard - for info on his unnerving foe . Meeting his former passkey in Paris , Bruce learns that Equilibrium is one of Batman ’s victims - or at least , the dupe of someone he saved . Ducard explains to Bruce how Charlotte Le Serf was one of his greatest students and a master key assassinator who finally quit to settle down down into a dainty hushed life until her kinsperson was belt down by a drunk gadget driver who ’d beenrescued by Batman year before . Ducard explains to Bruce how Charlotte could n’t accept the noise of the calamity and stop up blaming Bruce for the death of her husband and son . He even suggests that she sees Batman as an agentive role of chaos . And while that ’s a title ordinarily set aside for Batman ’s archfoe , it ’s not entirely inaccurate .
A natural Italian sandwich like Batman ofttimes constitute order and justice . But even though Bruce goes out of his way to save everyone he can - even fiend like the Joker - he has no way of knowing or controlling what they do with their lifetime after he save them . As Ducard points out , they shape the cosmos in all sorts of way that nobody could ever expect , reinforcing the natural topsy-turvyness of life . That ’s not to say thatBatman should start letting free hoi polloi decease , but it does reframe the weight of his conclusion as a hero , especially when they could go on to ruin the living of people like Equilibrium .
Meanwhile , the Joker can certainly be erratic and unpredictable . But aside from tormenting Batman , he typically want only one matter : to kill everyone he can in whatever way he can . Mass last may be a sick , twisted , base destination , but in the farsighted run , it ’s a pretty simple and straightforward one . His zombi attack inBatman : Urban fable # 7by Tim Seeley and Juan Ferreyra show that , on the whole , his impingement on the macrocosm at large has been to reenforce the natural rules of order of death , constitute him Batman ’s opposite number in a way that most people - andprobably the Joker himself- never actually consider .
Jokermay consider himself the ultimate agent of chaos , but that ’s clearly not the case . In terms of demeanor , DC Comics ’ Clown Prince of Crime is undoubtedly mercurial . But when it do to inflicting well - intentioned chaos on an unsuspecting public , evenBatmanhas him beat .
