The conflict to keep a hero ’s secret life from being expose is a tireless one , but as theFlash , Wally West ’s kinship with the populace was so exhausting , DC Comics decided to just pretermit his secret identity between issues . During his introduction as the Flash , Wally West made it quite clearthat his individuality was a secret . And yet , his identicalness was chop-chop treated so inconsistently that DC outed him just to fix the ensue confusion .
Wally West was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino and initially appeared inThe newsbreak # 110 . After spend year by Barry Allen ’s side as Kid Flash , Wally was impel to step up and fill his uncle ’s yellow boots afterBarry ’s dying inCrisis on Infinite land . West expect the weight of his uncle ’s legacy but do the character well on his own for over 20 years . However , there were some bumps along the way that would eventually have to be straightened out .

1995’sFlash Annual # 8- by Tom Peyer , Mark Waid , David Brewer , Mark Stegbauer , Humberto Ramos , Ken Branch , and Wayne Faucher - featured an altercationbetween Flash and Doctor Alchemyset early in Wally ’s Flash career . The engagement end with Alchemy stripping the Flash of his suit out in the clear , revealing a barely - clad Wally West to the giggling public . After an assist from Green Lantern , it ’s confirmed the news program picked up on the rough-and-tumble and West ’s picture , lead to the entire world definitively knowing the unexampled Flash ’s individuality .
It ’s long been difficult for writer to keep a hero ’s namelessness believable , which is likely why so many superheroes have gotten rid of secret identity whole . However , Flash had a rougher ride than most , as his confusing identity element direct first to an off - panel resolution and then a humiliating early reversal once writers revisited the gap in persistence . While Wally ’s early Clarence Day may have been hard in that regard , DC Comics ' decision to get free of his clandestine identity was for the good , as it allow West to have a unparalleled set ofchallenges in his adventures as theFlash , and to claim the mantle for his own after the death of Barry Allen .
