The 2d film very by design is different [ from ] the first . apparently , there ’s sure DNA that we honored . It ’s a mystifier moving-picture show . It ’s funny with sure critics . They would have some issues with the complexness of the secret plan , but what I always order mass is , “ If it ’s a unsubdivided plot , then anybody can figure it out , and no need to get Christian Wolff to come in . ” He has this wandering brain , so the trick to the movie was make it complicated enough that only Chris can crack it and the hearing is just a little bit behind , but they ’re not so far behind that they kind of drowse off and recede pursuit .
I had no interest group in repeating what we did in the first movie . I want to build off the first one , but very much wanted to refresh the tank , do something very different , and produce something very new . Bill and I very intentionally built the plot around human trafficking , and this was back in 2018 , because I wanted to strike a visible light on that subject matter and research that .
Also , I wanted to really go deeply with the brothers , make it a two - hander , and research that relationship with Chris and Brax . That make some complications because it was a bit of a tonic tightwalk . When you ’re deal such heavy study thing as human trafficking and then examine to make a fun , entertaining film … it was gainsay . It was challenging , and I honestly did n’t know if I draw out it off until I put it up in front of an interview . But , fortunately , it ’s all working and I ’m very pleased with it .
