relate : Flash sustain His Powers Are More Horrific Than Anyone Knew

What was it like to see the success of Jess and the chemical reaction to the Kid Quick / New Flash ? Especially among the LGBTQIA+ residential district ?

Danny : So for me , I was part of that fanbase and community that react to take care Kid Quick ! It was really exciting to just see a speedster that I relate to SO much ( although I ’ve always had a soft place for speedsters ! ) . With superheroes , just knowing that there ’s a non - binary superhero who share your grammatical gender identicalness opens doors , both creatively and in general . Jess just exist ! As non - binary ! There was n’t a discussion of this , or a dissection of their existence , and in some ways , that ’s still new on the mainstream funny page .

far side phobias

Ivan : That so many the great unwashed take over onto this part who was just on a couple of pages in a elephantine anthology one - shot was unbelievably cool . Obviously it owe a lot to artist Eleonora Carlini ’s beautiful design for them , and to the other DC editors and author Joshua Williamson for deciding to give Jess this fate as a possible flashing of tomorrow , but I ’ll take as much course credit as potential and say that it was all me .

That the LGBTQIA+ community was so into Jess shows just how much appetency there was for an of import graphic symbol that was very much of that community . And I think lector really appreciated that Jess ' fluidity was n’t the focus of a " very special " Teen Justice story , it was just an facial expression of a lineament who is brave and powerful and fun . And as they ’ll hopefully see in the newfangled level , really suspicious .

How exciting is it to put the spotlight back on Jess and their Earth .

Ivan : I * love * Earth-11 , especially the agency Danny and I are approaching it . It ’s not " everything ’s the same except the pronouns , " we get to pick and choose some our favourite component from the DCU without worrying much about a great continuity . It ’s a freedom most writers of mainline DCU titles do n’t really have , and we ’re exploiting the hell out of it . We get all the best miniature .

Danny : I’m attempt to go beyond saying ‘ ditto mark to Ivan , ’ but frankly , being able to build off the archetypes of these heroes — Robins , Supes , Troy , and yes , obviously Kid Quick — but make a immense sandpit to spiel in is a dream hail rightful . We get to pave new ground AND create a legacy .

to boot , there ’s a puzzler postulate when you have a go at it ( some ) of a character ’s time to come , right ? We cognise that Jess will finally be Flash , but we do n’t know the path to getting there . And I delight storytelling like that , because then the How becomes more significant than the What , which for me has always been a Hellenic fundament of cape funnies .

Teen Justice

What can you tease about this Teen Justice team ?

Ivan : The heroes that come together to stop Starrla in the MULTIVERSE special all seem to like the musical theme of being a team , but each of them has different reasons for wanting Teen Justice to be a thing . As a final result , they do n’t incisively function the way a team at this top executive level should .

Danny : You have it off when a full booster radical has to work on a grade project for the first time , so now they have to project out their dynamic in term of who is in billing of what , but ALSO there ’s the brand new kid at schooling that ’s been add to the group to , which may or may not impress the friend dynamic as well ? And also there ’s a big bad roughneck that threatens not only the class project but also the fate of the universe as we know it ?
