Back in 2019 the city of Gotham was being master by Bane , and he had banned any of the Bat - Family from go into the city , having kidnapped Alfred and threatening his life if any of them try on . When Damian , the current Robin , snuck into Gotham and got caught , Bane shockingly murdered Alfred in inhuman blood right in front of him . While Bane eventually choke himself after being vote down during the events of A - sidereal day , Task Force Z sees him return " to life"as a semi - sentient zombie handmaiden to Jason Todd , addicted to the Lazarus Resin that gives him some semblance of life history .
