World of Kryptoncolorist Nick Filardi ( @nickfil ) shared the image to hisTwitter , saying Oeming had “ gone full Jack Kirby . ” Jack Kirby had a panache all of his own , particularly when it came to building and desktop designs , and Oeming ’s artistry perfectly captures that , show what a splendid Kryptonian city might reckon like if Kirby had illustrated it . Kirby ’s respectable workwas jam - packed with small detail that enriched the illustrations , and Oeming captures this as well , with small flourishes throughout , such as people and futuristic car on the sky route . Filardi joked that Oeming was also trying to “ pop ” him and his “ flattered ” Joel Bartlett , bear on to the elaboration of Oeming ’s art .
While mixing Krypton with Jack Kirby ’s esthetic may seem like an odd choice at first , it makes sense in light of Kirby ’s history at DC . When he arrived in 1970 , Kirby could have had his weft of any title in DC ’s roster to exemplify — and he chose the mid - rangeSuperman ’s Pal , Jimmy Olsen .
