Raker does save himself in the end , though . Members of the JLA make it to rescue Orion and Kyle , but they are being overwhelmed by Parademon hatchlings . Raker , who had been hiding his Green Lantern ring around his neck to keep him live , self - destructs with the tintinnabulation . He give himself to abide Orion and Kyle time to escape . Interestingly though , the history ends with an epilogue showing Raker alive while Kyle wonder how Raker kept his pack powered without a lantern . At which point , Raker ’s brain lights up , possibly suggest he could power the ring himself . Either fashion , it is a good thing that this forgottenGreen Lanternwas not totally abandoned from DC Comics history .
